Campaign Legal Center Careers

The CLC conducts proceedings to defend and enforce federal and state campaign finance laws, protect the fundamental right to vote, challenge redistribution plans that discriminate against voters based on race or political beliefs, and ensure compliance with government ethics laws. CLC also participates in court and appeal proceedings through briefs from friends of the court, participates in educational efforts (such as training on knowing your rights), and provides law-making assistance to legislators and organizations seeking to improve the right to vote. Potential projects are likely to combine litigation with advocacy and public education. This position is located in Washington, D.C. The CLC`s knowledge of electoral issues is unparalleled. Peer organizations, journalists and government officials rely on our analytical and legal skills. It is our expertise and impartiality, combined with the cases and topics we strategically select, that allow us to achieve the greatest possible impact. CLC is seeking applicants for sponsored scholarships – including but not limited to Skadden, Equal Justice Works, school-funded public interest scholarships and other public interest scholarships – to begin work in the fall of 2022. CIS is looking for candidates who are interested in all of our areas: campaign finance, voting rights, redistribution and ethics. All applicants must be prepared to apply for their scholarship for all available funds of public interest. Scholarships are limited to one or two years.

Limited internal resources are available if no external funding is raised. This internal funding depends on the 2022-2023 budget and is not guaranteed for all funded fellows. The CLC`s commitment is to democracy, not to a particular political party or election outcome. We think about systemic impact when deciding what work we want to pursue, but we work at all levels of government to introduce innovative ideas that lead to significant change or create significant legal precedent. Our priority is to act and move forward – whether in the courtroom, in the newsroom or in the Statehouse. The center offers competitive salaries and excellent benefits. Please check for current vacancies and check this page regularly as new positions will be posted here first. Without you, we can`t do any of this. And we look forward to learning about the skills, perspectives and passions you can bring to our work! Protect our democracy.
