National Legal Veterans Service Program

„Michigan veterans now have access to unprecedented representation by a national legal team that will defend their rights at the highest legal level to ensure the fairness of disability benefits,“ said Zaneta Adams, director of the MVAA, which serves as the central coordinating body for Michigan`s more than 550,000 veterans. „In addition,“ said Adams, „our veterans` advocates will benefit from the NVLSP`s extensive portfolio of training and continuing education as we continue to serve Michigan veterans and their families, now and in the future.“ NVLSP is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that the government provides the 22 million U.S. veterans and active employees with the benefits to which they are entitled due to disabilities due to their military service for our country. „We are thrilled to partner with the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency and look forward to leveraging our shared knowledge to provide Michigan veterans and their families with access to the benefits to which they are entitled,“ said Paul Wright, Executive Director of the NVLSP. If disability claims are rejected by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), veterans have the right to appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC). CCRVS provides Veterans with an impartial judicial forum to review Veterans Appeal Board administrative decisions that conflict with the Veteran`s entitlement to disability benefits, survivor benefits and other benefits such as education payments and debt relief. Through this new partnership, NVLSP will provide free legal representation to support appeal cases. This process begins when the NVLSP reviews a case in which a Veteran`s appeal to the Veterans Appeal Board (VVA), the highest authority within the VA, is dismissed and determines that there are grounds for appeal to the CVPAC.

If this is the case, NVLSP offers free representation to the Veteran or his/her family. The partnership between the MVAA and the NVLSP makes this free legal service available to Michigan veterans for the first time. In addition to supporting the NVLSP for veterans in claims, NVLSP will also help Michigan veterans with redundancy upgrades that make it easier for veterans to access benefits that are unfairly denied them due to a less honorable release. • The Veterans Crisis Line has a new, easier-to-remember number – dial 988, then press 1 www.veteranscrisisline.net.
